People get all kinds of bad news in their life. Among the worst of these would be the news of bad health. Cancer is one of the most alarming conditions that one can develop. The fact that there is no definite cure makes it even more serious and when you or any member of the family is told that you are suffering from cancer, it is going to be a real struggle.
Making a decision
There is no definite cure, but there are several treatment options. A patient can go for surgery, followed by chemotherapy and cobalt therapy, and more modern advancements in Science have introduced different pill medications. After being declared with cancer, you will be faced with a big decision to make. Are you going to fight or are you going to succumb to the disease?
To arrive at a sound decision, you have to know more about your condition. Educate yourself by reading through various resources, spending some time discussing with your doctor and joining specialized cancer forums in the Internet. Ask your doctor about your prognosis and once this has been determined, discuss it with your family. Whichever path you take, you should not be alone. You will need your family the most because of this.
Facing the problem
What you have in front of you is not a simple math equation with a definite solution. This problem is serious and you should not expect to do it all on your own. Your friends and family are in your life, so that they can help you go through with it. Do not be afraid. You will see, you will feel better after you have told them.
Understand the following:
- You tell your family and friends, not because you are asking for their pity. You are telling them not because you demand their support. You tell them because you have to give them the opportunity to be with you, to offer their help without you asking, to be there for you, without you begging.
- It is also important to tell your family, because cancer can be hereditary and early detection can save a lot of lives. If you tell them about it, and one of them is already a sufferer, your misfortune may have some meaning and purpose.
- Your load will feel lighter when you have someone to share it with. Facing cancer is hard, and trying to do it on your own is going to be a suicide attempt. Family and friends will make the journey less dreary, and you will be given a reason to fight, because you have something to live for.
Surviving and living
If you are one of the fortunate ones, rejoice. You have to realize that you could have lost it all, but a greater Power gave you another chance at life and you should not waste time not living it.
Going through cancer was tough. The treatment drained you and it has taken the life out of your family, who stayed with you through it all, but you have to learn to look at the bright side. This is your new life and now you can begin once again and rebuild your life with a newfound hope. More importantly, you should be courageous enough to use your experience to inspire other people and help them go through the battle that you have just won.
